Conetoe Community Water Association, Inc. serves the water needs of its members in the town of Conetoe and surrounding community, which is located approximately 8 miles east of Tarboro, North Carolina. It is a privately owned, non-profit cooperative corporation.
Our goal is to provide high-quality water to our members, to maintain and improve our water system so it may continue to operate long into the future. This goal can be accomplished by working together, volunteering our time and continually looking for ideas to provide improved solutions for our association.
The Conetoe Community Water Association, Inc. (Conetoe Water) organized on April 9th 1965 as a simple water system using a well site and an overhead tank. We supplied water to approximately 138 members. From those humble beginnings, Conetoe Water continued to grow. In 1973, an extra well system was put into service and 230 members were added in the surrounding area. In 1989, an additional 67 members were added as lines were extended in the Mildred community area. In 1991, another line was extended down Leigh Rd adding 15 new members.
Currently Conetoe Water has wells on two properties. At the NC Hwy 42-East site, we have one well, and at our Park Drive location is another well site along with our overhead tank.
Conetoe Water now supplies water to approximately 1200 customers.
Conetoe Community Water Association, Inc. is managed by a five-person board of directors that are elected from the members. Each board member serves a two-year term with two positions available one year and three positions available the next. Elections are conducted at the Annual Member's Meeting.
Thanks to the member volunteers and to the determination and hard work of the board, Conetoe Water is successfully reaching for its goals.
