Why Am I Seeing Water Spigots on Fire Hydrants

We will be performing tank maintenance to our water tower this week. This periodic inspection, cleaning, and maintenance is necessary to maintain proper water quality as well as the longevity of the equipment.  Tank maintenance is important to prevent sediment that could build up in the tank over time which will help to prevent water quality problems and can also help to extend the life of the tank.  This week’s tank maintenance includes cleaning the interior of the tank, inspecting the tank for leaks or cracks, and repairing any damage that is found.

During this time, you may see water spigots on some of the fire hydrants running water. This is to flush the system, which we also do from time to time. Flushing the system helps to prevent sediment that could build up in the water lines. It also allows us to bypass the tower for the inspection, cleaning, and maintenance.

As a water customer you should not notice any difference in services other than more activity in the area.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We will do our best to minimize the impact on your water service. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our offices.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to maintain the quality of your water.
